In mid 1999, my partner and I moved from our long-time home in Humboldt County to Oakland, California. This was a very trying decision for us, having to leave a place we appreciated both environmentally and socially.
Transport is an exploration of the ideas of and uprooting of ones life and possessions and moving to a new and unfamiliar environment. The imagery is filled with nostalgic farmhouses and seas of city lights, containers of possessions and curious pets. Layering tiny messages, symbols, and paint are like the foggy confusion of not knowing where your future is taking you and what wonders or horrors may be in store.
They are small and intimate, quiet and personal. They record a cathartic diary of that transitional period.
