Ways to…Series While trying to get into a comfortable psychological space for working in my new studio in Eureka, I embarked on a flurry of random drawings and paintings that produced a few small series of coherent works. The Ways To… series is one of them. Early in childhood one of my aspirations was to become a cartoonist. Feeling adequate with the drawing aspect but not consistently creative in the writing department, I slowly drifted into other pursuits. The Ways to… series has been appearing sporadically in my sketchbooks for several years and is a very immediate way to look at a theme from many directions at once. These pieces deal with issues of questionable self-help and un-politically correct endeavors, with plenty of excessive sarcasm. Works include Ways to Scale a House, Ways to Say I Love You, Ways to Play with Fire, Ways to Not Sleep, Ways to get to the Top of a Tree, and How to Make a Molotov Cocktail.
